Drink now or cellar for up to 5 years. Serve chilled. Founded as a small cooperative by 26 local grape growers and landowners, Colterenzio is based in its namesake town which is surrounded by gentle rolling hills dotted with vines. This is the Uberetsch subregion of the South Tyrol which is known for its crisp whites and peppery reds. Today the cooperative has grown considerably with members contributing grapes from 30 hectares of vines which include some of the South Tyrol’s finest plots. This exceptional white is reminiscent of top bottlings from Pessac-Léognan in Bordeaux which produces some of the finest Sauvignon Blanc-based wines in the world. The fruit is exclusively sourced from the Lafoa single vineyard site close to the small town of Girlan. Grapes are typically harvested in early September at optimal ripeness, with half of the must fermented in oak casks and the remainder in stainless steel tanks. The wine is then aged on the lees for 8 months before bottling. The nose is remarkably complex with layers of honeysuckle, citrus zest, grapefruit and honeydew melon. On the palate there’s a mouthwatering acidity, bright citrus and tropical fruit flavours, and a creamy texture from the lees ageing. Well-rounded and polished with plenty of finesse, this is a fantastic wine to serve alongside roasted chicken, salmon, or rich risottos.
