Cellar for up to 9 years. No need to decant before serving. Ricardo and Isabel Peña craft world-class Chilean wines from the Viña Quebrada de Macul vineyard which is widely considered one of the finest plots in the Maipo Valley. The vineyard sits in the foothills of the Andes Mountains on prime gravelly soils. The family purposely keep yields very low to maximise quality and the vineyard is harvested vine by vine to ensure all of the fruit is picked at optimum ripeness. Primarily composed of Cabernet Sauvignon along with a dash of Petit Verdot, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, this vivacious red is fermented using wild yeasts and then aged in French oak barrels for 18 months before bottling. Following bottling the wine is then rested for 6 months more before it is released. Succulent crushed cassis, blackberry and plum notes burst out of the glass while the first sip reveals a generous full body, smooth tannins and well-rounded texture. The bold flavour profile makes a great match for red meat dishes as well as tomato-based pasta and vegetarian dishes like aubergine parmigiana. While it’s delicious to drink now, it can also be cellared for at least another decade if desired.
