Cellar for up to 3 years. No need to decant before serving. In 1948 the Altare family purchased their estate in La Morra, a bucolic paradise planted with peach, apple and hazelnut trees as well as well-sited Nebbiolo, Barbera, and Dolcetto vines. During the turbulent economic times in Italy in the 1970s Elio Altare made a trip to Burgundy intending to learn why the region is prized for its exceptional wines. Elio brought back a wealth of insights and new ideas which led him to turn to a more natural and elegant style of winemaking with a lighter touch in the winery. More recently, in 2016, the running of the estate was inherited by Elio’s daughter, Silvia, who carries on her father’s innovations while seeking to find her own way on the Italian winemaking scene. The family’s Dolcetto d’Alba is a fruit-forward, easy-drinking wine crafted from 20-40 year old vines and aged in stainless steel tanks for 10 months. On the nose there are inviting hints of ripe red cherries and plums while the first sip reveals a medium body, bright acidity, soft tannins and a pure, clean finish. During the summer it can even be served slightly chilled, a tradition that is very popular in Italy.
